In a move to address some of Karachi’s pressing urban infrastructure challenges, the Chinese Consulate has donated 58 modern solar-powered street lights to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), an initiative Mayor Murtaza Wahab described as a major step toward the city’s improvement. The handover was formalized during a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony at the consulate.
According to an official information today, Mayor Wahab conveyed his heartfelt gratitude for the support, stating that the solar-powered lights are expected to yield significant improvements in road illumination, public security, and general convenience. He highlighted that the modern technology will also contribute to energy conservation while providing residents with a better environment.
The Mayor emphasized that as Pakistan”s economic hub, the metropolis urgently requires advanced urban systems. He characterized the assistance from the friendly nation as highly encouraging and a commendable step in fulfilling the city”s need for modern solutions.
During his visit, Barrister Wahab remarked that the Pakistan-China friendship is exemplary and that this initiative would further bolster the long-standing partnership between the two nations. He expressed confidence that mutual cooperation in municipal services and urban facilities would continue to strengthen.
At the ceremony, Chinese diplomatic officials reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting Karachi in urban development, environmental enhancement, and other infrastructure-related projects. In response, the Mayor expressed deep appreciation for China”s consistent and supportive relationship with the city and the country.
The event was also attended by key municipal officials, including KMC Municipal Commissioner S.M. Afzal Zaidi, Advisor Finance Gulzar Abro, and Senior Director Coordination Ikhlaq Yousafzai.
