A delegation of Christian community representatives, including MNA Kheal Das Kohistani, called on Federal Minister for Law and Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar to discuss matters relating to minority rights, legal reforms, and community welfare.
According to a PID report today, the delegation appreciated the Government’s continued commitment to safeguarding the rights of minority communities and welcomed recent legislative initiatives, particularly the Child Marriage Restraint Act, as well as the efforts undertaken through the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) to promote inclusion, protection, and equal opportunities for all citizens.
Representatives of the Christian community shared their perspectives and recommendations regarding proposed amendments to Christian personal laws and highlighted matters requiring further legal and administrative consideration. The discussion focused on strengthening legal protections, addressing community concerns, and ensuring that relevant laws and policies effectively respond to the needs of the Christian community.
Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar reiterated the Government’s commitment to meaningful engagement with minority communities and emphasized the importance of continued consultation in advancing inclusive legal and policy reforms. He noted that the Government remained committed to ensuring that all citizens enjoy equal rights and opportunities in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar appreciated the Christian community’s constructive engagement and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to protecting the rights of minorities. He stated that consultations with community representatives play a vital role in ensuring that legislation and public policies reflect the aspirations and concerns of all citizens. He further emphasized that the Government remained committed to promoting interfaith harmony, equal citizenship, and an inclusive society in which every Pakistani can contribute to national development without discrimination.
It was agreed that further deliberations and consultations would be undertaken to examine the recommendations presented during the meeting and to develop an effective mechanism for addressing matters relating to Christian personal laws and other issues concerning the community.
