CJP asked to delay judicial commission meeting

ISLAMABAD: Justice Qazi Faez Isa of the Supreme Court (SC) has requested Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial to postpone the judicial commission meeting convened for the appointment of judges, it emerged on Tuesday.

In a letter to the CJP, Justice Isa questioned the logic behind calling the meeting in haste. He went on to add that it appeared as if the CJP wants me to go through 2,347 documents in just one week.

He added that out of thousands of documents shared on WhatsApp, he could have access only to 14, which were not legible. “Before senior judges are bypassed, it would be better if their mode of appointment is reviewed,” he demanded. He said it was a matter of concern that the apex court had failed to devise the procedure for the appointment of senior-most judges.
