Cleaning of drains in Korangi industrial area begins

KARACHI:KMC Municipal Commissioner Syed Shujaat Hussain said Thursday that a strategy has been made regarding the cleaning of the drains located in the Korangi industrial area, on which work has been started before the monsoon, drainage system on 8000 Road Korangi and other adjacent roads in Korangi will be improved to facilitate movement of industrialists and workers in this important industrial zone of the city.

He said this while addressing a meeting held at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) head office on Thursday President of KATI Faraz-ur-Rehman, former Chairman Masood Naqi, Senior Vice president Nighat Awan, other members and officials of KATI, senior director of municipal services, KMC Nauman Arshad, director MPD Anwar Baloch, superintendent engineer Khalid Awan and other officers were also present.

Earlier, Municipal Commissioner Syed Shujaat Hussain along with KATI officials visited the Korangi industrial area and inspected the condition of various drains and inspected the cleaning of the drain by winching machinery on 8000 road and issued directives to concerned officers about the cleaning of the drains. Later, while addressing a meeting at KATI head office, Municipal Commissioner Syed Shujaat Hussain assured that the process of cleaning and drainage of drains will be continued before and during the monsoon rains. Further improvements will be made in the drainage system.

He said that the Korangi Industrial Area is the most important industrial zone of Karachi where there are a large number of industrial units and thousands of workers work here, so the KMC is taking all possible steps to make this area clean and green.

He said that with the consultation and guidance of the officials and members of KATI, the representative of Korangi industrial area, a strategy has been made for the cleaning of drains and other works and every effort is being made to carry out quality works in this area. He said that instructions have also been issued to the officers of different departments of KMC and the purpose of this visit today is to carry out work in Korangi Industrial Area without delay.

Administrator Karachi Dr. Syed Saifur Rahman has said that the KMC Sports Complex located in Baldia Town Saeedabad will be improved and made functional under public-private partnership. In this sports complex covering an area of 22 acres, two cricket stadiums, a hockey stadium, Squash court, boxing arena and other facilities are available but this complex could not be used for a long time which will now be activated on priority basis, he said while visiting KMC Sports Complex in Baldia Town Saeedabad.

On this occasion, Director of Sports, KMC Aftab Qaim Khani, international cricketer Dr. Siddique Patni and other officers were also with him. After reviewing the facilities and issuing necessary instructions to the concerned officers, he said that this building was constructed at a cost of crores of rupees and its usefulness will come out only when it is used in the wider interest of the city.

He said that KMC manages many sports complexes including KMC Sports Complex Kashmir Road, New Karachi Sports Complex, Landhi Sports Complex and Baldia Town Sports Complex, but two sports complexes are providing facilities to the citizens and the remaining buildings and other facilities are not still operational. There is a need to activate them as soon as possible so that the youth of the city can be provided with better sports opportunities.

He said that for the promotion of sports in all districts of Karachi, KMC is taking steps to expand the infrastructure of sports, providing maximum sports facilities for the youth as is done in all the big and developed cities of the world so that city youth can be attracted towards healthy and positive activities, Baldia Uzma Karachi is also aware of its responsibilities in this regard and is continuing all possible measures.
