High-level parliamentary missions from Trkiye and Azerbaijan converged at Pakistan’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) today, signaling a strengthened trilateral commitment to confront the escalating challenges of climate change and natural calamities. The visit focused on building a united front for disaster management, particularly following the successful evacuation of over three million at-risk individuals by Pakistani authorities during the recent monsoon season.
The distinguished delegations were led by H.E. Prof. Dr. Numan Kurtulmu?, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Trkiye, and H.E. Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan. They were accompanied on their tour of the NDMA headquarters by the Speaker of Pakistan”s National Assembly, Mr. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Upon their arrival, Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, welcomed the state guests and provided a comprehensive overview of Pakistan’s proactive disaster management framework. The briefing emphasized NDMA”s pivotal role in national coordination and its integration of sophisticated technologies for enhanced preparedness and response.
The NDMA team showcased advanced initiatives designed to bolster national and regional resilience. These included the development of a National Common Operating Picture (NCOP) and a Global Common Operating Picture (GCOP), which leverage satellite data and international hazard models for real-time risk assessment and informed decision-making.
The international representatives were also apprised of NDMA”s recent operational successes during the Monsoon 2025 floods. Key achievements presented included the effective deployment of the Disaster Early Warning (DEW) system, extensive public risk awareness campaigns, and the timely rescue and relocation of millions from hazardous areas, alongside coordinated relief efforts.
The visiting dignitaries expressed their admiration for NDMA’s strategic application of technology and its dedication to strengthening national preparedness. Both sides reaffirmed their mutual resolve to advance regional cooperation through capacity development, knowledge sharing, and providing reciprocal support during natural emergencies.
