Comprehensive plan needed to introduce Pakistan’s standard berry honey in the world: Governor KP

PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman said that effective measures would have to be taken under a long term comprehensive plan to utilize the valuable potential of berry honey, quality olives and saffron across the country, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said this while meeting Secretary Forest and Environment Department Islam Zeb and Secretary Agriculture Department Muhammad Israr at Governor House Peshawar on Wednesday. A comprehensive plan for berry planting in the province was discussed in detail.

The meeting also discussed in detail the resources and expenditure related to berry, olive and saffron cultivation and various viable issues related to care.

Later, a delegation of All Pakistan Bee Keepers and Honey Dealers Association President Naeem Qasmi and other officials of the association also called on Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman. During the meeting with the delegation, the Governor said that Government are working to utilize the potential of standard berry honey in the province under an excellent and comprehensive plan and under this plan in the southern districts of the province including Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak and other suitable areas. Berry trees will be planted because the berry tree is the only tree that provides quality honey.

He said that the completion of the berry honey project would bring development and prosperity to the people associated with this sector as besides planting berry plants we are also working for the care and certification of berry honey and introduce Pakistan’s standard berry honey to the world which will give access to global markets.

The meeting was also attended by Director General Agricultural Research Dr Rauf, Joint Secretary All Pakistan Bee Keepers and Honey Dealers Association Shabir Ali Shah and Senior Research Officer Tarnab Farm Dr Younis.
