Concern over unavailability of beds in hospitals

KARACHI:Young Doctors Association (YDA) Sindh has expressed its concern over reported unavailability of beds and ventilators in public and private sector hospitals of Sindh.

Chairman, YDA, Sindh, Dr Umer Sultan, talking to media here Thursday, said YDA had already pointed out all the problems, which are being faced by hospitals after the outbreak Coronavirus in Sindh province but unfortunately no any attention was paid to resolve these issues.

He said YDA has observed a token protest, briefed print and electronic media and launched a social media campaign to get government’s attention but all in vein. He said no any solid step has been taken to resolve the genuine issues. He claimed that no bed is available in major public sector hospitals like Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and others for coronavirus patients.

Dr Umer Sultan said doctors have been facing grave insecurity at workplace due to unavailability of beds and ventilators. He said incidents of harassment and torture of doctors have increased in Sindh’s hospitals. He announced that doctors will stage protests, if security is not provided to healthcare professionals at hospitals.

On the other hand, YDA Civil Hospital Karachi chapter condemned a campaign on social media against the doctors. It requested Sindh government and CHK administration to increase the security and ensure the safety of doctors.
