Condemnation of drone attack on Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, Pakistan expresses solidarity with the UAE

Pakistan has strongly condemned the recent drone attack on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates today, emphasizing that this act represents a grave violation of international law.

In a statement given at the United Nations Security Council today, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed unwavering support for both the UAE and Saudi Arabia, who have recently been targets of similar drone attacks. He highlighted the threat these actions pose to the region’s peace and stability.

Calling the attack on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant a clear violation of international humanitarian law, Ambassador Ahmad highlighted the potential catastrophic consequences of targeting nuclear facilities. He reiterated Pakistan’s stance that nuclear sites should remain inviolable and appealed to the international community to adhere to these principles.

Pakistan’s condemnation also extended to the drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, which the ambassador termed a grave violation of the kingdom’s sovereignty. Emphasizing the need for caution, Ahmad appealed to the involved parties to adhere to international obligations and refrain from actions that could escalate tensions.

Ambassador Ahmad also highlighted the crucial role of diplomacy in resolving regional hostilities. He appealed to the parties to engage in dialogue in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter, to promote lasting peace and stability. He noted that Pakistan is committed to promoting negotiations and diplomatic efforts to resolve these conflicts.

Finally, the ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting constructive dialogue, emphasizing that there is no substitute for diplomacy in the peaceful resolution of disputes.
