Constituency-level development data directory to be published: Ahsan

The federal government is set to publish a constituency-level development data directory, a move aimed at fostering positive competition among public representatives in the development sector, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has announced.

Addressing the Pakistan Governance Forum in the capital today, the minister confirmed that the Ministry of Planning and Development has largely finalised its work on the directory, which will provide detailed insights into various development indicators.

Mr Iqbal also stressed the necessity of an empowered local government framework to improve the nation”s overall system of governance.

Also speaking at the forum, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq called for the creation of an inclusive global digital architecture.

He asserted that advancements like Artificial Intelligence (AI) should serve the wider population rather than a select few, insisting that developing nations must have a role in formulating international standards.

The Speaker stated that Parliament needs to enhance its capacity to legislate effectively on critical contemporary issues, including data protection, digital rights, and responsible innovation.

He further underscored the importance of diversifying partnerships, bolstering regional connectivity, advocating for multilateralism, and investing in human capital.

In a subsequent conversation with the media, Speaker Sadiq reiterated the collective responsibility to improve governance from the local level upwards. He highlighted the need to enhance the operational effectiveness of state institutions to fortify the entire governance framework.
