KARACHI:Administrator Karachi, Sindh government’s Spokesman and CM Advisor on Law Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday said that coronavirus is spreading rapidly in Sindh as proportion of positive cases in the province jumped to 19 per cent from one per cent during the past 24 hours.

“The ratio of COVID-19 positive cases in Karachi has reached 38 per cent out of total tests conducted. Citizens should get vaccinated and wear masks. Indoor celebrations will be banned from January 24,” the Administrator expressed these views while addressing a presser here at Sindh Assembly.

The Administrator said that also came down heavily on federal government and said that the economic situation is deteriorating owing to mini-budget. “The federal government has issued health cards to reward its ATMs. The people of Pakistan are struggling with inflation,” he added.

Wahab said that due to the spread of novel coronavirus, the pressure on hospitals has also started increasing. He said that people have stopped wearing masks in their daily life and SOPs are not being implemented, citing it a reason for the virus’ spread.

“Due to the change in the situation, the NCOC has made some decisions and suggested that those who have been vaccinated should take a booster shot for which the vaccine is available, he said and appealed to the people to wear masks and protect each other at social events and weddings.

He said that as soon as the mini budget was approved, the prices of electricity went up. After the mini budget, the prices of medicines have gone up by 20 per cent which he said a great human tragedy.

“People in Sindh and other parts of the country are living a very difficult life due to inflation and all this is due to the incompetence of the federal government,” he added. Wahab said that the people of Pakistan want to get rid of the federal government and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will oust the government.

The Administrator Karachi said that the federal government did not provide electricity in summer and gas in winter, adding that prices of medicines, electricity and petrol have been increased as soon as the mini budget was passed.

Pharma companies will collect money from consumers for importing medicines and raw materials. He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan calls himself an environmental champion even though there are problems of electricity and gas in the whole country including Sindh and the people have been exploited.

He said that treatment facilities in Sindh province are better than other provinces. “Today people from other provinces come to Sindh for free and good treatment which is a proof of our claim,” he said. The Administrator said that the purpose of health cards by the federal government is to reward those friends who have their own hospitals as infectious diseases and accidents are not being treated under health cards.

People are asking what is the purpose of health card, as it will not cater accidents. He said that taxes on solar panels will further affect the poor, who are already under tremendous pressure. He said that the three major political parties in Karachi had gathered only a few hundred people and staged sit-ins and rallies. Wahab said that the real problems of the citizens have been left behind.

He said that in comparison to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Sindh government has come up with a better and more comprehensive local government law to address public issues. He said that parliamentary style of government has been mentioned in the constitution.

“Numerical majority is important to see what is best for the people of Sindh and in this regard the members of Sindh Assembly have given their decision. The political party which has been rejected by the people cannot not make such a decision,” he added.
