Court Rejects Request for Further Physical Remand of Imran Khan’s Nephew in Jinnah House Attack Case

A Lahore anti-terrorism court (ATC) denied police their request for an extended physical custody of Shahrez Khan, the nephew of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Saturday. Judge Manzar Ali Gill ordered Khan, son of Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, to be transferred to judicial remand in the Jinnah House attack investigation. Law enforcement had sought the extended detention for further inquiries, but the court rejected the application.

Khan was formally detained for his alleged involvement in the planning and implementation of the May 9 Jinnah House attack. His name surfaced in a supplementary document filed in September 2023. He was brought before the ATC on August 22, 2025, after an FIR was lodged against him.

Authorities previously apprehended Aleema Khan’s sons, Shershah Khan and Shahrez Khan, for their alleged roles in the May 9, 2023, unrest. Shershah, previously declared a fugitive, was recently captured after returning from London, where he reportedly spent two years in hiding following the Jinnah House incident. Investigators contend that Shershah was with convicted PTI activist Hassan Niazi during the May 9, 2023, attack. Officials also assert he conducted online propaganda campaigns against the state while abroad before his capture on August 22, 2025.
