CPI inflation hits 13.37% in April

Karachi:The CPI inflation has reached 13.37% in the month of April registering an increase of 1.61% as compared to the previous month of March. The ratio of CPI inflation from July last to April this year remained 11.04%, according to a report on Sunday.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, CPI inflation general was increased by 13.4% on year-on-year basis in April 2022 as compared to an increase of 12.7% in the previous month and 11.1% in April 2021. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.6% in April 2022 as compared to increase of 0.8% in the previous month and increase of 1.0% in April 2021.

The CPI inflation Urban was increased by 12.2% on year-on-year basis in April 2022 as compared to an increase of 11.9% in the previous month and 11.0% in April 2021. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.6% in April 2022 as compared to increase of 0.7% in the previous month and increase of 1.3% in April 2021.

The CPI inflation Rural was increased by 15.1% on year-on-year basis in April 2022 as compared to an increase of 13.9% in the previous month and 11.3% in April 2021. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.6% in April 2022 as compared to increase of 1.0% in the previous month and increase of 0.6% in April 2021.

The SPI inflation on YoY increased by 14.2% in April 2022 as compared to an increase of 13.0% a month earlier and an increase of 21.3% in April 2021. On MoM basis, it increased by 1.5% in April 2022 as compared to increase of 0.6% a month earlier and increase of 0.4% in April 2021.

According to the bureau, in the month of April, the prices of fruit and vegetable were raised by 21% and 14.4%, respectively. In the same month, prices of tomatoes were hiked by 51.53%; onion by 42.83%; cooking oil by 11.3%; ghee by 8.2%; chick peas by 5.6%; flour by 3.2%; and mustard oil by 2.3%. However, in non-food items, the electricity became cheaper by 7.8%.

On year-on-year basis, the rate of tomatoes was soared by 124.6%; mustard oil by 61.72%; onion by 61.6%; cooking oil by 60%; ghee by 58.7%; Dal Masoor by 40.2%; chick peas by 30.08%; fruit by 30.6%; meat by 25.6%; vegetable by 19%; flour by 18.4% and wheat price increased by 14.6%.
