Launching a comprehensive campaign to address the escalating traffic issues in the district, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi, Farhan Aslam, has targeted traffic violations and vehicle compliance. This initiative has been launched in view of the growing concerns over road safety and environmental hazards.
The CTO has ordered strict action against common violations such as riding without a helmet, driving against traffic, overloading, and smoke emissions from vehicles. A stern directive has been issued to enforce 100% helmet use among motorcyclists, highlighting the zero-tolerance policy of the traffic authorities.
In an effort to mitigate smog, which poses significant health risks, proactive measures are being taken. Vehicles emitting excessive smoke will be impounded until they obtain a fitness certificate that complies with environmental standards. Furthermore, the education unit has been mobilized to conduct daily campaigns to raise awareness about smog prevention and compliance with traffic laws.
Moreover, there are plans to initiate legal proceedings against those who repeatedly ignore warnings and maintain unauthorized encroachments that obstruct traffic flow. The crackdown also includes checking driving licenses at the time of violations, and fines will be imposed on those who do not possess a valid license.
The CTO’s office has emphasized that adherence to traffic laws is essential for reducing accidents and ensuring a smooth traffic system. Accountability measures have been implemented, with circle in-charges facing consequences for any negligence leading to traffic obstructions. The comprehensive plan highlights a commitment to fostering a safe and organized road environment in Rawalpindi.
