Cylinder explosion in Islamabad Sector G, six dead, eleven injured

Six people were killed and eleven others injured in a tragic gas cylinder explosion at a residence in Sector G-7/2 this morning, according to initial official figures.

The Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) Capital Emergency Services received a report of the incident at 07:24 AM, prompting the immediate launch of a large-scale emergency operation.

Rescue teams arrived at the scene within just five minutes, enabling the timely start of relief and medical assistance for the victims of the explosion.

A comprehensive relief and rescue operation was conducted using all available resources. The operation involved 45 fire, medical, and rescue personnel, supported by ten ambulances and a dedicated rescue vehicle.

All the injured were immediately transferred to nearby hospitals where they are receiving treatment. The rescue administration has confirmed that no one has been reported missing in connection with the incident.

The entire operation was supervised by the Director General of Capital Emergency Services, Dr. Abdul Rehman, along with other relevant officials present at the scene.

Both the Chairman of the CDA and the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad have expressed deep sorrow and grief over this fatal incident.

In a later statement, the Chairman of the CDA has appealed to the general public to exercise extreme caution when using gas cylinders and other appliances.

The rescue administration, reinforcing this message, advised citizens to conduct regular safety checks of gas cylinders, pipelines, and geysers to prevent such accidents. Officials pointed out that most tragedies resulting from gas leaks are the result of minor negligence.

The issued safety guidelines urged residents to thoroughly check their gas systems before going to sleep. If the smell of gas is detected, do not press electrical switches or light a fire. Instead, immediately open windows and doors to ventilate the house.

In case of a suspected leak, citizens are instructed to immediately evacuate all family members from the premises to a safe location.

The administration emphasized that timely precautionary measures are the guarantee of life’s safety and that reporting any accident immediately to the rescue helpline 1122 enables timely action.
