Demos in Srinagar, Budgam against holding of sham polls

Srinagar, April 18, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, forceful demonstrations erupted in Srinagar and Badgam districts, today, against the holding of sham Indian Parliamentary elections in the territory. Polling for the second phase of the Lok Sabha Srinagar seat is underway in three districts of Central Kashmir – Srinagar, Badgam and Ganderbal.

Hundreds of people staged pro-freedom, anti-India and anti-election protests and marched on roads in Zakoora, Soura, Pamposh Colony, Kreshabal, Eidgah, Daharmuna, Beerwah, Charar-e-Shareef, Nasarullah Pora, Kandoora, Chewdara, Kawoosa, Rathsun and several other areas of the districts.

Indian troops and police personnel used brute force and fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells, injuring several people. The demonstrations and clashes between the protesters and Indian forces’ personnel were going on till last reports came in.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown is being observed in poll-bound areas to register protest against the election drama. Call for the shutdown has been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership. All shops and business establishments are closed while traffic is off the road.
