DESSI International NGO Staff harassed with life-threats

Larkana: Development through Empowerment for Sustainable Solutions Initiative (DESSI) International, a United Nations ECOSOC accredited civil society organization based at Larkana, Sindh, Pakistan is women-focused, non-religious, non-political, and non-profit humanitarian registered NGO that focuses on empowerment and dignified well-being of rural women, marginalized and vulnerable communities through Rilli Applique Arts and Skilling Youth through TVET in a safe, clean, and healthy environment.

On Friday, September 16, 2022, two unidentified miscreants pointed out guns and threatened madam Hannan (Chairperson) and Imtiaz Ahmed (Executive Director) of DESSI International at its NGO office and girls TVET institute based at Larkana. They threatened them with assassination if they did not immediately close the girls’ institute and NGO office of the DESSI International.

The miscreants threatened with guns and blamed that DESSI International NGO promotes Malala Yousufzai, anti-religious, American open culture and encourages girl students through different vulgar activities to stand against religious principles and portrays women are superior to men.

DESSI International opposes such threats and rejects stereotypes and accusations of discrimination and improper activities of girls at its institute. DESSI International believes in religious harmony, equal rights for men and women, and respects all religious values in society.

Whereas, DESSI International NGO has improved security measures to avoid similar incidents in future, and the FIR No. 89/2022 dated 20-Sep-2022 has also been registered at Market Police Station of Larkana against unidentified offenders so that legal action can be taken against them.

DESSI International appeals to those concerned to provide security to prevent any potential future incidents to affiliated staff, and trainees of DESSI International, and regularly conduct careful surveillance to avert any potential future incidents.
