The 6th Session of Bilateral Political Consultations between Pakistan and Tajikistan has spotlighted pressing issues around regional security and energy collaboration. Held in Dushanbe from 29 to 30 September, the meeting saw representatives from both nations explore strategies to bolster their alliance.

Leading the Pakistani delegation was Syed Ali Asad Gillani, Additional Foreign Secretary for West Asia and Afghanistan, while Tajikistan”s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Farrukh Sharifzoda, headed his country”s team. Discussions spanned a comprehensive array of topics, including political, trade, and security ties, with a shared commitment to fortifying regional transport corridors and realizing the CASA-1000 energy project to enhance regional integration.

Trade enhancement emerged as a focal point, with an emphasis on textiles, logistics, agriculture, food, and pharmaceuticals. Both sides recognized the potential for increased economic collaboration and acknowledged the importance of high-level visits in reinforcing their partnership.

Security cooperation was another critical agenda item, encompassing counter-terrorism strategies, training initiatives, and the exchange of visits. The dialogue also ventured into regional and global issues, focusing on South Asian developments and the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, stressing diplomacy and UN principles as pathways to conflict resolution.

The session concluded on a constructive note, with both parties agreeing to convene the next round of consultations in Islamabad in 2026. During his visit, Syed Ali Asad Gillani engaged with senior officials and visited key economic zones, reinforcing Pakistan”s commitment to strengthening ties with Tajikistan.
