Dr Fowzia appeals to observe a ‘prayer day’ for the release of Aafia

KARACHI:Aafia Movement leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia Siddiqui has appealed to observe a Yom-e-Dua (prayer day) for the release of Aafia Siddiqui on Friday, June 9.

She appealed the prayer leaders, teachers and general masses to arrange special prayers in mosques, seminaries, schools, homes, shops and workplaces. She said the health condition of Aafia is not good and she needs urgent hospitalization.

She said the lawyer of Aafia Clive Stafford Smith says that the eyesight of Aafia Siddiqui worrisome. She has already lost sight from her one eye. The jail authorities have urged her to learn Braille. She asks does the jail authority want her to become blind. He lawyer has requested to raise the issue of the eyesight of Dr Aafia on social media.

However, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui is in the US in connection to meet her jailed sister. Previous day, she attended a reception hosted in her honour by President of Pakistan-American Congress Dr Ashraf Abbasi in Sugarland town of Texas state. Pakistani counsel general Aftab Chaudhry and Aafia Foundation USA president El-hajj Mauri' Saalakhan also attended the reception.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui said the key to freedom of Aafia is there in Islamabad. She said Aafia was kidnapped from Karachi and first taken to Afghanistan and then to USA. She said it was not possible by her to narrate the atrocities braved by Aafia.

Dr Fowzia said injustice is a great threat to justice everywhere. She said after her three meetings with her sister, she could not properly sleep for many nights.

She said they are lying about the educational degrees of Dr Aafia. She has nothing to do with biology or chemical or nuclear science as she is a PhD in Neuroscience Cognitive. She has expertise in the field of education. She said for last six years after was jailed in a dark small jail cell totally disconnected with the world. They also lied that she didn't want to see her (Dr Fowzia).

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ashraf Abbasi said that Aafia is innocent. She has nothing to do with Osama bin Laden or any other terrorist organization. Nothing in this regard could be proved as yet, he said. On the occasion, shields were presented to Dr Fowzia Siddiqui and El-hajj Mauri Saala Khan on behalf of the Pakistani-American Congress.
