Dr Sarosh Lodi, Engr Nazir leading in PEC election amid reports of severe disruptions

$$$ISLAMABAD, August 19 (PPI) Engr Waseem Nazir and Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, Vice Chancellor of NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi, were leading for the slots of Chairman and Senior Vice Chairman of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) in the election 2024, respectively, as per unofficial results on Monday.

According to the unofficial election results and a report by voters’ leaders, Engr Mukhtar Shaikh was leading for the slot of Vice Chairman PEC Sindh, Engr Mujeeb Ur Rehman Murre as Vice Chairman Balochistan, and Engr Suhail Aftab Qureshi as Vice Chairmanship Punjab.

The official results could still not be announced due to disturbance in the election process caused by the biometric system of Nadra yesterday, which was extended by 9:00 pm.

Engr Jawed Salim Qureshi of TEP Panel filed a complaint with PEC, blaming that polling stations were changed across Pakistan to reduce the voting from the cluster cities of TEP Panel. He further said that four hours delay in the election process happened due to non-working of the biometric system. He demanded recounting of chairman voters before the formal announcement of the election results.

In a statement, Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodi offered gratitude to those voters who gave him lead to the slot of PEC Senior Vice Chairman. He said that as the poll results were still being awaited, your cooperation and wait in the delaying election process was praiseworthy, and he was greatly thankful to you all for such kind of cooperation. Now your cooperation would be required to work together to resolve the PEC issues and fulfill the promises he made with you, the Vice Chancellor stated.

Engr Abdul Jabbar Solangi said that it had been wonderful since the last few weeks. Mr Solangi said that he was indebted to the voters’ passion and effort towards the goal of creating a professional PEC that we can all be proud of.

He said: “I have had the pleasure of making great friends across this marvelous country; and for me personally, this in itself is a monumental achievement. Nonetheless, it was an exemplary effort by everyone, and now we leave the rest to Allah. Once again, thank you all.”

Engineer Zainal Abdin Khuhro congratulated TEP Panel candidates for emerging victorious in the PEC election. He said that those who raised empty slogans had been ousted. He hoped that the new PEC body would come forward with concrete measures to resolve the issues of jobless engineers and those working in the field. He said that the new PEC body would hopefully approve the Registration case of DCET 1995-96 Batch within the time frame of Federal Ombdusman’s order issued on July 2, 2024.

He said: “It is time to revolutionise PEC so that the engineering sector could work and grow while those who were jobless could get their career and play their due role for the development of Pakistan.”
