Due to the recent heatwave, the temperature in Sukkur has reached 48 to 49 degrees Celsius

There is a severe heatwave in Sukkur today, and the temperature has reached 48-49 degrees Celsius.

In response to the extreme weather, the Mayor of Sukkur, Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, with the cooperation of the Sindh government, has directed the relevant departments to accelerate the provision of public services to mitigate the effects of the heat.

Multiple heatwave relief camps have been set up at key locations across the city. These camps provide basic medical attention and facilities, such as oral rehydration solutions, cold drinks, and fresh water, to help residents cope with the rising temperatures.

To assist workers laboring in the heat, the Sukkur Municipal Corporation, under the guidance of Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh, is distributing free umbrellas. An initial survey has highlighted approximately four thousand workers who will receive umbrellas in phases. Local authorities have been tasked with determining and ensuring that the umbrellas reach the most deserving individuals in their areas.

Additionally, Prem Chand Bahadur from the United Nations Planning and Training Agency commended the combination of immediate heatwave relief and long-term environmental strategies as significant steps towards sustainable urban development.
