Dumpers and tankers have become moving death in Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh

Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh Ameer, Kashif Saeed Sheikh, has said that dumpers and tankers have become moving death in Karachi.

In a statement on Wednesday, following the death of a first-year student at Karachi’s 4K Chowrangi, he highlighted the horrific fatalities on the city’s roads, stating that approximately 800 people have been killed and over 1,100 injured in fatal traffic accidents this year.

The statement was issued after the death of student Abid Rais, who was crushed to death by a speeding water tanker near 4K Chowrangi. Sheikh expressed deep sorrow over the incident and demanded the arrest of the driver and justice for the victim’s family.

He asserted that a “dumper and tanker mafia” is operating unchecked, claiming that these heavy vehicles have become “moving death” in the city. The provincial ameer added that the city’s dilapidated roads further exacerbate the danger.

Sheikh severely criticized the local administration, stating, “The Sindh government and the ‘occupant’ mayor are entirely focused on a flood of e-challans and taxes, with no one to care for the public.”

Citing data from the first seven months of 2025, the Jamaat-e-Islami leader said that 538 citizens had lost their lives in traffic incidents, with 222 of these deaths linked to heavy vehicles. He reported that 274 fatalities during the same period were motorcyclists.

The statement further alleged that heavy vehicles are allowed to enter the city in exchange for bribes, with the complicity of law enforcement agencies. Sheikh maintained that many such vehicles operate without valid licenses, fitness certificates, or route permits, and those involved in accidents often go unpunished.

He pointed out that an average of two dozen accidents involving heavy vehicles occur weekly, especially at night or early in the morning when police surveillance is weak. Sheikh also noted that the Safe City Project, approved in 2016, has yet to be completed.

Concluding his statement, the provincial leader expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the deceased.
