In a prominent display of national solidarity, Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi, accompanied by senior foreign diplomats and community leaders, today emphasized the need for interfaith harmony and tolerance during a dignified Easter ceremony at Governor House.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Hashmi clarified that the primary purpose of the event is to promote religious harmony and national unity. He appreciated the valuable contributions of the Christian community to the country’s development and prosperity and reiterated that the doors of the Governor House are open to followers of all religions.
The Governor said, “We are equal partners in the joys of Easter with our Christian brothers.” Citing the vision of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam, he affirmed that his principles guarantee the right of every religious community to celebrate its festivals with complete freedom.
Prominent international and local figures attended the event. Notable figures included the Consul General of China Yang Yundong, British Deputy High Commissioner Lance Dom, and diplomatic representatives from Russia and Germany.
Other prominent figures present included Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Kheel Das Kohistani, Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly Anthony Naveed, and Bishop Frederick John.
Reflecting the government’s prevailing austerity policy, the event was held with great simplicity. The Governor extended heartfelt Easter greetings to the Christian community and cut the traditional cake along with the guests.
The ceremony concluded with special prayers for the country’s development, prosperity, peace, and security. In their remarks, Minister Kheel Das Kohistani, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Deputy Speaker Anthony Naveed, and Bishop Frederick John all praised the spirit of brotherhood and fraternity displayed at the gathering.
