Pakistan and Kenya have pledged to significantly expand their economic partnership, aiming to double bilateral trade over the next five years. This commitment was confirmed during the second meeting of the Pakistan-Kenya Joint Trade Committee (JTC) held in Islamabad today.
The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Jawad Paul, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan, and Ms. Regina A. Ombam, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Trade, Kenya. Representatives from various governmental sectors of both nations were in attendance, underscoring the importance of this bilateral platform for advancing trade relations.
The Joint Trade Committee serves as a crucial mechanism for reinforcing economic ties and addressing unresolved trade issues between the two countries. During the session, both parties expressed their dedication to enhancing cooperation across a spectrum of priority sectors.
Key areas identified for collaboration include market access, export promotion, customs procedures, and investment opportunities. Additionally, the countries aim to strengthen frameworks concerning animal quarantine, plant protection, and sanitary and phytosanitary measures.
Efforts will also be directed towards aligning technical standards, boosting the pharmaceutical sector, and improving banking systems. Furthermore, the session highlighted the importance of efficient trade dispute resolution and fostering growth in information and communication technology, tourism, and industry.
This strategic dialogue marks a pivotal step in deepening the commercial cooperation between Pakistan and Kenya, paving the way for increased economic engagement and mutual prosperity.
