Electricity and Gas Load Shedding Has Worsened in Karachi: PDP Leader

Pasban Democratic Party’s Vice-Chairman Abdul Hakim Quaid said today citizens have expressed strong resentment over persistent electricity and gas load shedding, demanding uninterrupted power and gas supply, especially during Ramazan.

“Concerns have also been raised over the inadequate supply of water through pipelines, worsening the daily struggles of residents,” he said in a statement issued by PDP.

Criticizing the government’s energy policies, he said that citizens have called for a complete review of the sector. K-Electric has been labeled as an uncontrollable entity, making life difficult for Karachi’s residents. Even on weekends, extreme power outages continue, while electricity bills remain high without any relief.

Hakim said: “Despite assurances from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), the public is still facing gas shortages during Sehri and Iftar. Complaints against the Pakistan People’s Party-led Sindh government have surged, with many blaming poor governance for exacerbating the hardships of Ramadan.”

He said the collusion between elites and the administration has driven inflation and unemployment to alarming levels, leaving citizens burdened with electricity and gas shortages alongside overbilling. Many have questioned why a city with a population exceeding 30 million has been subjected to a foreign company’s monopoly for utility supply, he added.

The PDP leaders said: As inflation and energy crises spiral out of control, critics argue that the ruling elite have failed to provide relief even in the sacred month of Ramadan. The disparity between the privileged and the struggling masses continues to grow, with citizens denouncing the government’s inefficiency in controlling essential services.”
