Environmentalist Shahida Kausar meets Federal Minister for Housing Riaz Pirzada, discusses climate disasters, floods, heavy rains and drought

Minister for Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada has stressed the urgent need for sustainable water management to address the growing risks of climate change in Pakistan.

During a conversation with environmentalist Shahida Kausar Farooq in Islamabad today, Pirzada highlighted Pakistan’s increasing vulnerability to climate disasters such as floods, heavy rains and persistent droughts. These challenges are putting significant pressure on communities and jeopardizing food security across the country.

The Minister emphasised the critical importance of water conservation and the need to restore diminishing groundwater levels. He called for the accelerated implementation of these measures in conjunction with the efficient utilisation of existing water resources.

To bolster water conservation efforts and enhance climate resilience, Pirzada announced the installation of rainwater harvesting systems on the rooftops of major buildings under the Ministry of Housing and Works. This initiative aims to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change by promoting innovative water management strategies.
