Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Muhammad Azam Khan Swati chairs a high level meeting on drugs situation in Islamabad especially in the educational institutions

Islamabad, August 31, 2020 (PPI-OT): The Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Muhammad Azam Khan Swati chaired a high level meeting on drugs situation in Islamabad especially in the educational institutions. The meeting has been attended by Secretary, Ministry of Narcotics Control, Director General (ANF), IG Police (Islamabad), Director General (Federal Directorate of Education), Representative of HEC, Representatives of Private School Associations, Chairman Sunny Trust, Chairperson of KKAWF and civil society organizations.

Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Muhammad Azam Khan Swati said that the Prime Minister Imran Khan especially tasked me to purge the country from the menace of narcotics drugs and save our children which are the future of Pakistan. He informed that 99.9% drugs are coming from Afghanistan through smuggling to Pakistan. He said Anti Narcotic Force is fight against the drug smugglers with limited resources and personnel. He said that efforts of ANF against drug smugglers and dealers are highly appreciable.

He informed that ANF seized drugs worth of 8300 million dollars in the last month which is a huge achievement. Muhammad Azam Khan Swati said that Pakistan becomes the second largest consumers of Narcotics drugs which is highly alarming. He said that drug dealers have targeted our educational institutions. He said that this meeting has been arranged to save our children and youth from the menace of narcotic drugs. The Director General (Anti Narcotics Force) and Inspector General of Islamabad Police briefed the participants about the narcotics drugs situation in educational institutions of Islamabad.

They appealed the heads of educational institutions and civil society organizations to coordinate and cooperate with Ministry of Narcotics Control and law enforcing agencies to exterminate the menace of drugs of education institutions. Ministry of Narcotics Control will make a coordination committee for coordination with law enforcing agencies and educational institutions. The participants gave the following recommendation for implementation in educational institutions in Islamabad: i. All educational institutions should be declared smoke free zone.
