Fire breaks out in plastic factory in Karachi Export Processing Zone, no casualties reported

A fire that broke out in a plastic manufacturing factory in Landhi’s Export Processing Zone in Karachi was brought under control after 11 hours, however, the cooling process is ongoing.

The fire broke out in plastic, old clothes, and shoe factories. According to the Chief Fire Officer, the fire spread from one factory to another, while the third factory was saved.

The third-degree fire broke out around 8:45 PM on Friday night. More than 20 fire tenders and 3 snorkels from KMC, Navy, and Rescue 1122 participated in the firefighting operation.

Commissioner Karachi said on Saturday that there were no casualties in the incident. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation has been providing an uninterrupted supply of water to various rescue agencies since last night, the corporation’s spokesman confirmed on Saturday.

During this operation, initiated on the instructions of the Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, a continuous supply of water from the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants was ensured.

Senior officers were present at the site throughout the night to oversee the arrangements. These included In-charge Landhi Hydrant Moin Shaikh, Sherpao Hydrant head Sameer Khan, and Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Landhi Syed Hamid Hussain.

This monitoring continued until the morning, after which In-charge NEPA Hydrant Faisal Shaikh and Riaz-ul-Haq from Landhi Hydrant took over the monitoring responsibilities at the site.

The spokesman further stated that from the beginning of the operation, the overall coordination of the hydrants’ activities has been under the direct and personal supervision of the CEO’s focal person for the Hydrants Cell, Shahbaz Bashir.
