Football: Sindh Super League’s opening match ends in draw

KARACHI: Sindh Super League 2022 under the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh, has started at People’s Football Stadium Lyari in which 10 teams will compete on league basis by Group A and B.

The opening match was played between Malir Bazigar and Lyari Fighters which ended in a goalless draw. The chief guest of the function, Information Minister Sindh Saeed Ghani, inaugurated the event by kicking the football.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Sindh Super League would prove to be a successful event. The Sindh government is making all out efforts for the promotion of sports including football. Steps are being taken to hold regular sports events and encourage athletes, including the Thar Jeep Rally.

Arbab Lutfullah, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Sports, said that bringing football to international standards is one of the priorities. On the special directive of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, 10 to 15 new stadiums are being constructed in Karachi. In addition, a comprehensive plan has been prepared to improve the structure of the grounds.

Senator Yousuf Baloch said that due to FIFA ban on Pakistan football, the national team is deprived of participation in international events. The Sindh government has taken a good step to promote football through the Super League.

International footballer and convener of Sindh Super League Kaleemullah said that an integrated plan has been formulated for the development of football. More football events have been organized to encourage the players. Founder Sindh Super League Hamza Farooque, Secretary Sports Akhtar Inayat Bhurgri, Former Secretary Sindh Football Association Rahim Bakhsh Baloch, Ali Nawaz Baloch, Nasir Ismail, Abdul Qayyum Afridi, Tariq Lutfi, Gohar Zaman, Asif Khan and others also attended the event. In addition, huge fireworks were displayed before the match.

Arshad Mahmood, Mohammad Ali Shehki gave performances in Musical Night. Match Commissioner Syed Ahmed Ali Wasti and referees Nazir Khan, Tahir Qari, Fazal and Zubair were also present.
