The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened a meeting with ambassadors and high-ranking diplomats from over thirty international missions in Islamabad at the National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC) today to discuss the impact of the ongoing monsoon season.
The briefing aimed to inform the diplomatic corps about the humanitarian and infrastructural consequences of the heavy rains and to demonstrate the extent of NDMA”s relief endeavors and resource allocation.
Representatives from countries such as Turkiye, Australia, Russia, Germany, Japan, Canada, South Africa, Poland, and Ireland were present. Pakistan”s international missions also participated virtually, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) attended in person.
The NDMA provided a detailed overview of the ongoing relief and rescue activities in the affected areas. Chairman NDMA Lt General Inam Haider Malik underscored the agency”s collaborative efforts with provincial and regional disaster management bodies, the distribution of aid supplies, and the utilization of technology for weather monitoring and timely intervention. Other NDMA divisions also outlined their respective contributions to managing the flood situation.
The diplomatic delegation was informed about NDMA”s proactive strategy for minimizing the negative effects of the monsoon, with an emphasis on integrated response systems, advanced early warning systems, and enhanced collaboration with stakeholders at all levels.
The attendees commended NDMA’s work, recognizing its importance in protecting lives and property and bolstering Pakistan”s ability to withstand climate-related difficulties.
