Forest Minister Shah inaugurates 2nd olive garden

KARACHI:On the eve of World Environment Day, Provincial Forest Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah inaugurated 2nd olive garden by planting sampling on M-9 Motorway near Saadi Garden under the Forest Department’s Social Forestry Wing.

According to a handout issued from Sindh Information Department on Sunday, Secretary Forest Sindh Dr Badar Jamil Mendhro, Chief Conservator Javed Mehr, Divisional Forest Officer Maqsood Ahmed Memon and officers of Forest Department were present on the occasion. Shah paid a detailed visit to the olive farm. He was briefed by the Social Forestry Wing about the initiatives.

Talking to media after the visit, the forest minister said that on the special instructions of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, events had been organized in different areas of the province on World Environment Day. This is the second olive farm in Karachi near Saadi Garden after the successful experiment of olive farm at Thadu Dam.

He said that according to Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision, trees were being planted along the roadsides, embankments and riverine areas across the province under the Green Sindh and Prosperous Pakistan Program to minimize the effects of climate change. He said that urban forests were being developed in major cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana. Miyawaki Forest in particular is preferred. “I urge the media to spread this message to as many people as possible and persuade each citizen to plant sampling so that not only the country becomes greener but also the environment becomes better,” he said.
