SEHWAN: Four girls drowned while bathing in Url Canal near Sehwan town of district Dadu in Sindh on Thursday.

According to police, the four girls were bathing in the canal at village Sher Khan Solangi near Sehwan town of district Dadu when they drowned in deep water. They were identified as 12-year-old Gul Naz, 10-year-old Amri, eight-year-old Mehnaz, and 10-year-old Asma.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene, recovered their bodies and shifted them to Syed Abdullah Shah Institute of Medical Sciences in Sehwan, where doctors pronounced them dead. The eyewitnesses said that the girls were bathing in the canal when they drowned. The police also confirmed that they drowned while bathing. A mourning atmosphere prevailed in the affected area. There was hue and cry in the houses of victims.

The passersby who watched the girls drowning informed the villagers about the incident following which a rescue team and villagers rushed there to recover girls, but it was too late as the girls died by the time of recovery from the deep water. They said that rescuers arrived late.
