Four new towns established in Larkana undergo new LG law

LARKANA:Four new towns have been established in Larkana city under the new Local Government (Amendment) Act 2021 recently passed by the Sindh Assembly for which gazette notification has also been issued and others have remained unchanged.

According to notification, Larkana Municipal Corporation (LMC) will consist of 20 Union Committees (UC) and four towns which include Sachal, Hyderi, Dari and Empire Town. Every town will consist of five union committees. Dari Town shall consist of UC Nos: 9, 10,11,12 and 15. Empire Town shall consist of UC Nos.3, 4, 6, 7, and 8. Hyderi Town shall consist of UC No. 1, 2, 5, 19 and 20. Sachal Town shall consist of UCs 13, 14, 16, 17 and 18.

In the District Council, Larkana, the same 47 Union Councils have been included. The Ratodero municipal committee will consist of 10 wards and the Naundero municipal committee will also have the same seven wards. Badah Town Committee will have 14 wards, Dokri town committee five wards, Garello town committee three wards and Khair Muhammad Areeja town committee will have seven wards. Villages and areas located within the Larkana bypass will also be included in the LMC.

According to sources Larkana mayor will be elected by the votes of UC chairmen whereas city town chairman will be elected from the related vice chairmen of the town. Since every town will have five UCs hence a party enjoying majority votes of three UCs will be able to get elected its chairman for the union committee.

In the new local bodies law Bakrani town, which is taluka headquarter of Bkrani taluka of Larkana district, has once again been neglected and has not been granted the status of a town committee hence this town shall continue to remain affiliated with District Council as rural area union council whereas two committees of its two towns Garello and Khair Muhammad Areeja shall continue to work.
