Gilgit-Baltistan poll results halted in several constituencies

The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has withheld results in multiple constituencies and polling stations as it awaits re-voting at affected locations, according to an official order issued on Tuesday.

The suspended results include GB-15 Diamer-I, GB-16 Diamer-II, GB-17 Diamer-III, GBA-13 Astore, and ten polling stations in GBA-8 Skardu. The commission said the re-polling would be supervised by the returning officer to ensure a ‘transparent, fair and lawful’ process.

The commission directed returning officers not to open postal ballots, proceed with counting, or announce any final results until further notice, adding that constituency-level outcomes would only be finalized after incorporating results from re-polling.

It warned that any violation of the instructions would be treated as a breach of the electoral code. The Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan said no constituency result would be declared before the completion of the re-polling process.

The decision follows the annulment of voting at a women’s polling station in Loshi Thak, GB-15, after clashes and security disturbances during polling. Stone-throwing and firing disrupted the process, preventing a number of voters from casting ballots, even though about 200 votes had already been recorded.

Election staff were later evacuated under security cover, and authorities ordered fresh polling at the station on June 15, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
