Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi said today that the provision of prompt, effective, and free justice to citizens is a fundamental responsibility of state institutions.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Dr. Sohail Rajput at the Governor House, Karachi.
During the meeting, Dr. Sohail Rajput presented the Annual Report 2025 of the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh and briefed the Governor Sindh on the institution’s performance, public relief, digital reforms, and public awareness initiatives.
Mr Hashmi emphasized that the timely and fair redressal of public grievances strengthens public confidence in government institutions, while creating awareness among students and youth about citizens’ rights, public services, and grievance redressal mechanisms is the need of the hour.
The governor Sindh appreciated the Ombudsman’s effective performance, transparency, digital transformation, and public service initiatives, stating that such institutions play a vital role in strengthening public trust in governance.
Dr Sohail Rajput informed the governor that due to growing public confidence, the number of complaints received by the institution has increased from around 7,500 to more than 25,000. He further stated that during 2025, the Ombudsman’s Office provided relief exceeding Rs. 4.29 billion to citizens, while complaints are being resolved within 90 days.
He also highlighted that 423 open public forums (Khuli Katcheries) and 124 public awareness seminars were organized during the year. In addition, awareness campaigns have been launched in universities under which students are being appointed as Brand Ambassadors of the Provincial Ombudsman to promote awareness about citizens’ rights, the role of the Ombudsman, and the grievance redressal mechanism.
