Have sent a formal letter to the Chief Justice of Sindh for a transparent investigation of the Gul Plaza tragedy: Governor Sindh

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has demanded strict action against those responsible for the negligence that led to the tragic Gul Plaza incident, and revealed that a formal request for a judicial inquiry has been sent to the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court to ensure an impartial investigation.

During a meeting with former Chamber of Commerce President Javed Balwani on Monday, the Governor described the incident as “a very big and heartbreaking tragedy” in which precious lives were lost and stressed that those responsible should be identified and face strict legal consequences.

The Governor confirmed that the purpose of sending the letter to the province’s top judge is to facilitate a transparent investigation, so that the culprits are brought to justice and punished according to the law.

On the matter of aid to the victims, Mr. Tessori mentioned that the Chamber of Commerce representatives are satisfied with the Sindh government’s cooperation. This was also confirmed by Mr. Balwani, who said that the affected families have started receiving financial aid checks and he expressed satisfaction with the government’s action.

Governor Tessori clarified that his criticism is aimed at reform rather than political point-scoring, adding that good work will be appreciated, but it is crucial to take effective measures to avoid such tragedies in the future.

He expressed regret, pointing out that the local PTI-affiliated member of the Sindh Assembly failed to meet the family that lost six of its members in this disaster. He also highlighted the shortcomings of Jamaat-e-Islami’s UC and town Nazims and stressed that all government officials should fulfill their duties to solve the city’s problems.

He concluded by reiterating that a transparent inquiry should result in severe punishment for those found negligent in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
