Higher Education – AI Is an Assistant, Not a Replacement for Human Creativity: Expert Asserts

Amid growing discussions on the role of artificial intelligence in academia, an expert at the University of Turbat has clarified that AI serves as a powerful assistant to augment human intellect rather than a substitute for it, a message delivered to scholars and faculty members.

The assertion was made during a specialized workshop titled ‘Becoming a Smart Researcher in the Age of AI,’ hosted by the university”s Department of Natural and Basic Sciences on October 2, 2025. The informative session was conducted by Dr. Fida Ahmed, a Lecturer and the Director of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC).

Dr. Ahmed demonstrated the intelligent application of AI tools across the research spectrum. He guided attendees on using technology for identifying research gaps, structuring academic papers and theses, and performing comprehensive literature reviews. The training also touched upon using AI for data analysis, academic writing, proofreading, and generating visuals.

Stressing the collaborative nature of the human-AI relationship in research, Dr. Ahmed highlighted that while technology can greatly enhance a researcher”s productivity, accuracy, and innovative capacity, it cannot replicate genuine human creativity.

The seminar, also attended by Associate Professor Dr. Haneef Ur Rehman, was noted for its interactive nature. Participants from various departments commended the practical guidance shared, which they found valuable for improving their overall research efficiency.
