The University of Turbat (UoT) is set to revolutionize its economics education by integrating artificial intelligence and data science into its curriculum, following a landmark decision by its Department of Economics to approve two new specialized programs.
The department”s 7th Board of Studies meeting, held on October 2, 2025, resulted in the sanctioning of new Associate Degree (AD) programs in Economics and Data Science and Economics and Finance. The gathering also conducted a comprehensive review of the existing Bachelor of Science (BS) and AD programs in Economics.
Chaired by Dr. Mohammad Yaqoob, the Head of the Department, the session focused on enhancing the academic offerings to align with contemporary standards. Participants provided constructive input on modernizing the curricula to prepare students for the emerging technological landscape.
The deliberation brought together key academic figures. Internal members included Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell, and faculty members Mr. Ameer Bakhsh and Mr. Meer Jan. The board also benefited from the expertise of external members Ms. Faiza Aziz from Government Girls Degree College Turbat and Mr. Waseem Raja of Atta Shad Degree College Turbat.
Dr. Imadullah from the Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences contributed to the discussions remotely, adding a broader academic perspective to the proceedings.
The meeting concluded with Dr. Yaqoob extending his gratitude to all attendees for their meaningful contributions, which are poised to shape the future of economics education at the university.
