Higher educational institutions should be granted immediate political, administrative, and financial autonomy: Pakistan Muslim League (Functional)

In a decisive call for reforms, Sardar Abdul Rahim, General Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) Sindh, today emphasized the immediate need for political, administrative, and financial autonomy for higher educational institutions. The aim of this appeal is to establish a transparent and empowered university system in Pakistan.

Addressing a significant meeting of the provincial officials of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) Sindh held at the Functional League House Clifton, Rahim highlighted the importance of granting university syndicates complete authority to appoint vice-chancellors based on merit. He condemned the detrimental effects of bureaucratic and political interference on the quality of higher education, expressing that genuine improvements in research and education standards depend on institutional independence.

Rahim also advocated for the immediate lifting of the long-standing ban on student unions. He described these unions as a crucial foundation for political awareness, leadership, and democratic values. Highlighting the recent fee hikes in Sindh, he criticized the financial burden placed on students, making education extremely difficult for the poor and middle class during a growing economic crisis. Rahim called for a reduction in fees and an expansion of scholarships so that no student is deprived of education due to financial difficulties.

Expressing deep concerns over alleged corruption in MDCAT exams, issuance of fake degrees, and the sale of government jobs, Rahim warned that the continuous distortion of merit could create a serious social crisis by damaging the trust of the younger generation in the national system.

The meeting reviewed the performance of MSF Sindh and decided on several strategic plans, including activating MSF units at the district and divisional levels, organizing divisional workers’ conventions to engage the youth, and campaigning against unemployment by promoting technical education and employment opportunities for educated young individuals.

MSF Sindh President Mohsin Qadir Hangoro briefed on the organization’s activities, while other officials reiterated their commitment to defending students’ rights on all platforms.
