HRCP Calls For Immediate Release Of Aurat March Organisers Arrested In Islamabad

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has called for the immediate release of organisers and participants of Aurat March who were arrested earlier on Saturday by Islamabad police.

In a statement issued on the occasion of International Women’s Day, HRCP said that marking the day is the legitimate right of women in Pakistan and that the authorities must respect this right.

The commission said that Islamabad police detained organisers and participants of the Aurat March earlier in the day.

According to the statement, HRCP urged the authorities to release the arrested individuals without delay.

The commission stated that measures taken in the name of maintaining law and order in this context were not acceptable.

HRCP said that the right of women to mark International Women’s Day should be ensured.
