ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday disposed of a petition, filed by anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan against his arrest, holding that the case did not fall within its’ jurisdiction.
The court, however, advised the petitioner to approach the Lahore High Court (LHC) to get remedy. During the hearing, Imran Riaz Khan’s counsel contended that his client was arrested from the Islamabad Toll Plaza. The IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that every court had its own jurisdiction and the LHC could look into this matter. He said the arrest of Imran Riaz Khan in Attock does not fall under the IHC’s jurisdiction.
The counsel for the anchorperson, however, contended that his client was arrested at Islamabad Toll Plaza and not in the Attock area. The chief justice then told the counsel that if the LHC ruled that the arrest was made in Islamabad, then he could bring the order to the IHC.
During last few months, several cases were registered against pro-PTI Imran Riaz Khan and some other journalists for allegedly spreading hate against army and state institutions. Imran Riaz Khan was arrested by the Attock police on Tuesday night on the outskirts of Islamabad when he was coming to the federal capital to get pre-arrest bail from the IHC in a treason case registered against him.
