DS Railway Mahmood Rehman Lakho has ordered an immediate inquiry after a published report detailing the alleged theft of railway track components and the harsh behavior of an assistant engineer, which led to train speeds in the area being reduced to 20 miles per hour as a safety measure.
For the investigation, a three-member team comprising Muhammad Imran Rajpar (PWI), Sikandar Hussain Lashari (PWI Tando Jam), and Jehanzeb Baloch (IO) was dispatched to Mirpurkhas on Tuesday.
Upon their arrival, the officials met with local journalists Aziz Khan and Muhammad Baqir, along with social activist Shakeel Qazi, at the Railway Circuit House. The inquiry officers apologized for the alleged behavior of Assistant Engineer Shahid and assured those present that the administration takes the concerns of the media and the public seriously.
The team clarified that the train speed restriction is in place for safety reasons between Mirpurkhas Ratanabad Railway Station and Mirpurkhas platform. They stated that incidents of track material theft around Mirpurkhas are “negligible” and the situation is being continuously monitored.
The railway officials highlighted the significant challenges facing the department, including a severe staff shortage and the unavailability of necessary equipment.
Despite these resource constraints, they emphasized that continuous efforts are being made to keep the railway system functional and safe. The inquiry team confirmed that a detailed report will be submitted to higher authorities, based on which necessary actions will be taken.
