India has converted Kashmir into Karbala, TWI seeks lifting ban on Muharram processions

Srinagar, July 25, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Tehreek -e -Wahdat -e-Islami, a constituent of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, while describing occupied Jammu and Kashmir as another Karbala, has strongly condemned the continued ban on the Muharram processions by the administration in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Tehreek-e-Wahdat at a meeting in Srinagar deplored that the main processions of 8th and 10th Muharram continue to remain banned in Srinagar since 1990s, which is clear interference in the religious affairs of Muslims. The meeting was attended by office-beareers from Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla and Bandipora districts.

The participants said India has usurped the religious rights of Kashmiri Muslims. The main procession is also not allowed, which is extremely tragic and condemnable. The participants of the meeting said that the mourners are tortured and arrested and put behind bars for trying to take out the procession.

The meeting urged the Indian administration to immediately end the unjustified and illegal ban on the 8th and 10th Muharram processions. The meeting further said that the India is using every heinous tactic to distract the Kashmiris from their just struggle; it has created another Karbala in Kashmir, but the Kashmiris are firmly on the path of truth and righteousness and are determined to carry out the great mission of the martyrs to its logical conclusion.
