India must shun its aggressive approach on Kashmir: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, January 31, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while asking India to shun its aggressive approach on Kashmir, has stressed that New Delhi can’t suppress the Kashmiris’ sentiments and aspirations by adopting iron-fisted policy in the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that this policy of repression adopted by India was responsible for the deteriorating situation in the territory. He was addressing a delegates’ session after one of the constituents of the Hurriyat forum, Bilal Ghani Lone-led Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference, changed its name to Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Independent Movement (JKPIM) at the forum’s Rajbagh headquarters in Srinagar.

Mirwaiz said that the Kashmiri people had been witnessing the worst form of state terrorism. He said the Kashmiris have been offering sacrifices for a sacred cause. “This struggle is not for any economic package or chair or for monetary benefits but purely for the right to self-determination,” he added.

He said under Modi’s leadership worst-ever policy of repression has been unleashed under the garb of cordon and search operations wherein the Kashmiri youth are being killed mercilessly. New Delhi’s stubborn approach was the biggest hurdle in resolving the lingering Kashmir dispute, he added. He said New Delhi must understand that Kashmir is a human and political problem and that the issue needs to be resolved as per the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. “Now many retired generals of India are writing articles and making it clear in various television debates that there can be no military solution to the Kashmir dispute,” Mirwaiz said.

The Mirwaiz said that a series of steps were being taken to weaken the Kashmir struggle. “The biggest example before us is that our educated youth are being pushed to the wall and left with no option other than to pick up arms”, he said, adding, “People are not allowed to even mourn the deaths of youth, orchards are being damaged, houses blown up and resistance leaders caged and booked under PSA”. He said that judiciary was also being put to use to change the disputed nature of Kashmir while as military might was used to muzzle the genuine dissent. “But the more oppression Delhi would unleash the more our resolve to fight it will strengthen,” Mirwaiz said.

Regarding his telephonic conversation with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Mirwaiz Said New Delhi should not be irked by this as Islamabad is a party to the Kashmir dispute. Replying to a question about New Delhi blaming Pakistan for promoting militancy in Kashmir, Mirwaiz said, “The figures are clear. Those killed by the forces and whose killing was claimed as a success are all local educated boys who were pushed to the wall by none other than the forces.” “When false cases are slapped on the youth and every space choked for them they are left with the no option other than to pick up arms. They are not trained guerillas or fighters. The well-equipped forces laced with sophisticated weapons fighting these boys shouldn’t take pride in killing them.”
