India to rename Muslim sounding IOK places after Hindu names

Srinagar, November 05, 2019 (PPI-OT): The BJPs government in India is now planning to change the Muslim-sounding names of the different places after Hindu names to completely distort the religious identity of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Indian government is not ready to spare even places named after pro-India Muslim politicians like Shaikh Abdullah. Cricket stadium, Srinagar, which was named after National Conference founder Sheikh Abdullah, is being renamed after India’s first deputy prime minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

As per well-placed sources, preparations for the change of nomenclature are going on and the formal announcement in this regard is likely on December 15, the date that marks the death anniversary of Patel. “The nameplate and hoardings are being prepared. The rest of the formalities will also be done in coming days,” the media reports said.

The names of several streets and roads of city centre around Lal Chowk would also be renamed after known personalities of India. Earlier this week, with the approval of the Prasar Bharati Board, the name of “Radio Kashmir” was changed to “All India Radio”.

Last October, Indian surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari said the Chenani-Nashri tunnel that links Kashmir with Jammu – a longest tunnel – would be named after Bharatiya Jansangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.

It is pertinent to mention that Modi government is working on its communal agenda of Akhad Bharat. Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories on October 31 after India scrapped the special status of the State on August 5 without consultation of Kashmiris through a presidential order.
