Indian authorities agreed on conditional release of Mian Qayoom

Srinagar, July 29, 2020 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, authorities informed the Indian Supreme Court, today, that they had decided to release the Kashmir Bar Association President, Mian Abdul Qayoom on the condition that he would not visit Kashmir till August 7 and that he would not issue any statements. His current detention is coming to an end on the day.

Mian Qayoom was arrested by the Indian authorities following the abrogation of Art 370 in August last year and later booked under the black law Public Safety Act (PSA). In this regard, the Supreme Court bench hearing the case took the statements of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the authorities in occupied Kashmir, on record and ordered his release with certain conditions. Qayoom’s lawyer suggested that it would be better, if he is released on Thursday at the time when his family members are there to receive him. Mehta agreed to the submission.
