Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), today raised pro-Palestine slogans after taking the oath of office as Indian parliament member.

According to a Kashmir Media Service report, as per a media report, during the oath taking session, in response to Hindutva chants by some Indian parliamentarians from the BJP, the Hyderabad MP raised his own set of slogans including “Jai Bheem” (honoring BR Ambedkar, a key architect of the Indian Constitution), “Jai Palestine” (showing solidarity with Palestine), “Jai Meem” (referring to the Muslim community), “Jai Telangana” (his home state), and “Allahu Akbar” (God is great).

The chanting of pro-Palestine slogan by Owaisi led to objections from several Indian MPs, resulting in the Speaker of the Lok Sabha ruling that the slogan “Jai Palestine” would not be part of the official record.

Owaisi’s re-election marked his fifth consecutive term, securing his seat with a significant margin by defeating Madhavi Latha of the BJP. His slogans underscores his and AIMIM’s long-standing support for the Palestinian cause, aligning with a broader section of Indian Muslims who view the Palestinian struggle as a critical issue. The incident highlights Owaisi’s commitment to asserting minority rights and solidarity with marginalized communities, both within India and internationally.
