Assistant Advocate General here Tuesday apprised a constitutional bench that the introductory meeting of the committee about proposed judicial infrastructure reforms would be chaired by the Advocate General Sindh on May 6, 2025.
As per details, a constitutional bench of Justice Agha Faisal and Justice Mubeen Pakho heard the constitutional petition 400/2005 filed by Zia Ahmed Awan ASC.
Akhtar Hussain, Mustafa Lakhani, Zahid Hussain and Abdul Hadi, advocates appeared for petitioner along with petitioner Zia Ahmed Awan, advocate.
Sandeep Malani, Assistant Advocate General, Sindh, Nale Mitho @ Muhammad Ishaque, Focal Person of Respondent No.8, Iqbal M. Khuram, advocate for respondent/ KMC, Dhani Bux Lashari, advocate for respondent/ SBCA, Ashraf Ali Mirani, Law Officer, Government of Sindh, Focal Person of Respondent No.5, Zahoor Shah, Additional Prosecutor General, Mr. Arif Aziz, SSP City, Mr. Aijaz Sheikh, SSP T/D City, Raza Mian, DSP Legal II CPO, and Muhammad Tufail, DSP Legal TRO also appeared before the court.
In terms of order dated 17.04.2025, the following focal persons have been nominated: On behalf of petitioners Mr. Akhtar Hussain and Mr. Zia Ahmed Awan; on behalf of respondent No.1, Chief Secretary Sindh, Mr. Arshad Hussain Bhutto; on behalf of respondent No.8, Registrar High Court of Sindh, Mr. Nale Mitho @ Muhammad Ishaque; on behalf of respondent No.13, I.G. Sindh, Mr. Arif Aziz, SSP City; on behalf of respondent No.15, KMC, Mr. Ammar Khan, Senior Director Land, AntiEncroachment, and on behalf respondent No.18, Sindh Bar Council, Mr. Fahim Zia, Member Sindh Bar Council.
It was intimated that the focal persons of respondents No.16 and 17, Karachi Bar Association and Sindh High Court Bar Association, shall be advised shortly.
Assistant Advocate General stated that an introductory meeting of the committee constituted shall be chaired by the learned Advocate General Sindh on 06th May, 2025. He further stated that the focal persons identified supra and the focal persons to be designated by respondents No.16 and 17 may attend the meeting.
The primary agenda proposed by the learned AAG is to formulate a short term roadmap; i.e., that which can be given effect immediately and within the current fiscal year. Other point for consideration is the roadmap going forward. The focal persons remain at liberty to share their proposals with the other members of the committee, in advance of the meeting, so that meaningful progress can take place at the meeting.
However, Zia Ahmed Awan ASC later told the media that the matter was discussed in detail and it was agreed upon to deliberate threadbare on it in the proposed committee. He said that the AAG told that court that a spacious judicial complex is ready in Korangi. However, the petitioner insisted that all required facilities should be provided at the City Courts to facilitate both lawyers and litigants.
