Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry today invited Kuwait to invest in Pakistan’s coastal and energy logistics sectors, outlining a strong plan to develop maritime and port infrastructure to attract foreign investment.
During a meeting with Kuwait’s Ambassador Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Al-Mutairi, the minister presented a range of projects including fuel storage, bonded terminal facilities, jetty construction, and the ambitious ‘Energy City’ initiative. This initiative seeks to create integrated energy and logistics hubs adjacent to strategic ports.
Chaudhry emphasized Pakistan”s quest for international partnerships to revamp its maritime sector, enhancing the nation”s role in regional trade and energy transit. He stated that Pakistani ports hold immense potential for enduring investment in logistics and maritime infrastructure.
The minister proposed opportunities in the storage and handling of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), crude oil, and refined oil products. He also suggested establishing rental-based bonded storage facilities to facilitate regional trade and optimise supply chain efficiency.
A key project discussed was the development of a multipurpose terminal at Port Qasim, a major commercial port near Karachi. The minister highlighted plans for new terminals and storage infrastructure to boost cargo-handling capacity and solidify Pakistan’s position as a regional maritime hub.
Conversations also delved into infrastructure development and jetty construction, with assurances of full government support for potential Kuwaiti investments. These discussions are part of a broader strategy to attract foreign investment in Pakistan’s transport and logistics sectors, aligning with the government”s push to expand economic cooperation with Gulf nations.
Ambassador Al-Mutairi expressed a keen interest in reviewing the proposed initiatives, particularly those related to the Energy City and port-based fuel storage infrastructure. Both parties agreed to maintain ongoing consultations as Pakistan aims to strengthen economic relations with Kuwait through collaboration in the maritime sector.
