Srinagar, April 06, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Human Rights Commission has sought a response from the authorities to the controversial order banning movement of civilian traffic on Srinagar-Jammu Highway for two days a week. Taking suo-moto cognisance of the order, the Commission directed the authorities to file their response before it on the next date of hearing.
Due to the decision to ban civilian traffic on the highway, school going children, patients, employees and other people will not be able to reach their destinations well in time, the Commission noted. Meanwhile, spokesman of Tourism United Forum, Nasir Shah addressing a press conference in Srinagar said restricting civilian traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu Highway twice a week will badly affect people associated with tourism trade. He said closure of the highway will hamper movement of tourists to popular health resorts such as Pahalgam and Gulmarg.
On April 03, the Home Department of the territory ordered that Sundays and Wednesdays shall exclusively be dedicated for movement of Indian forces’ convoys along the Jammu-Srinagar-Baramulla highway and no civilian traffic shall be allowed from 4am to 5pm on these days till May 31, 2019.
