IOK people will collectively resist assault on Articles 35-A, 370

Srinagar, March 02, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership has said that the Kashmiris will collectively resist any assault on Articles 370 and 35-A of the Indian Constitution that grant special status and rights to Jammu and Kashmir and its people.

The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar said that they had serious apprehensions that the Articles 35-A and 370 might be removed in a dramatic manner in the coming days because of the way authoritarian announcements were being made at night.

The leaders said that despite being under arrest or house arrest, and in a difficult situation, they were in touch with various segments of society, including the High Court Bar Association, traders and civil society to see how this assault will be resisted collectively by the people.

“People have to be vigilant and ready to defend this great assault against us as it is a matter of our very existence. It’s a do-or-die situation for Kashmiris who have staked all in the last 70 years of their struggle for right to self-determination, having made tremendous sacrifices. We cannot let the sacrifices go in vain,” they said.

The JRL said that the ongoing escalation between Pakistan and India had once again confirmed to the world that unless the basic dispute of Kashmir was resolved, the world was in imminent danger that a nuclear war could flare-up anytime between the two nuclear neighbours. It said the world has to wake up to this reality and pressurize India to talk with Pakistan and resolve the dispute to avert the danger of war. The leaders said that the Kashmiris’ struggle was genuine and recognised by the international community and the Kashmir dispute was pending resolution for the past over seven decades.
